Social Media Tops in Marketing Poll
Lee Odden, at the Online Marketing Blog, just posted a report on the results of a TopRank Reader poll on digital marketing tactics. The question asked was, “What 3 digital marketing channels & tactics will you emphasize in 2009?” Depending on your knowledge of trends in advertising it may (or may not) surprise you to see that 6 of the top 10 tactics chosen by readers fall into the category of Social Media Marketing.
Here’s the Top 10 list:
- Blogging (34%)
- Microblogging (Twitter) (29%)
- Search engine optimization (28%)
- Social network participation (Facebook, LinkedIn) (26%)
- Email marketing (17%)
- Social media monitoring & outreach (17%)
- Pay per click (14%)
- Blogger relations (12%)
- Video marketing (10%)
- Social media advertising (7%)

Twitter Frenzy
Last night’s Daily Show ran a hilarious piece on legislators obsessing over doing “it in the Facebook, with the Twittering.” Check it out:
In the Future
“In the future, packages will be sent to distant worlds by beams of light!” is one of my favorite Space Mountain quotes from back in the day when FedEx sponsored the E-ticket Disney attraction.
Apparently in the future, everyone will be tapping buttons on handheld devices. At least that’s what this video called 2019 predicts. Its shiny vision comes from, according to VentureBeat, a presentation given last month by Microsoft’s Business Division president Stephen Elop at the Wharton Business Technology Conference.
(A longer, five-minute version of the video is posted on istartedsomething.com.)

Fractured Prune in Orlando
Today is a good day for donuts. The Fractured Prune Donut Shoppe recently opened in Orlando, and I went there today for a sample or two. The Prune specializes in hot homemade donuts that come with unusual hand-dipped toppings. Their stores are primarily located in the New York to Washington, DC corridor, but they have begun to expand across the country. And really, there’s no better place for the Prune than Orlando – America’s theme park capitol.
This is not your typical Dunkin’ Donuts. Every Fractured donut is handmade to order in front of you. It’s like a donut version of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream store. What can you expect from a place that has donuts named Blueberry Hill, Creamsicle, Peppermint Patty and Reese Cup? Yes, it’s a messy and decadent taste treat that I would recommend, especially if you’re hankering for sweets. It’s easy to see why the Prune was voted one of America’s Top 21 Donut Shops.
